Aquatech China 2008
As part of our on-going efforts to promote the local
water industry internationally, SWA would like to invite

Singapore International Water Week (SIWW)
SWA will be supporting the first staging of the Singapore
International Water
Week (SIWW) on the theme “Sustainability Solutions
for Cities”, scheduled to be held in Suntec Singapore
in 23 – 27 June 2008. The SIWW, with the PUB as
lead organiser will be an annual event to showcase water
technologies, and create business and networking opportunities
among water experts and industry players from all over
the world. The event will help strengthen Singapore’s
position as the hub in the Asia Pacific for leading
water technologies, as well as the gateway for business
opportunities in the regional and global water sector.
Some 800 delegates and 5000 trade visitors are expected

Singapore Water Association will be organizing a Singapore Pavilion at Vietwater 2008 held from 14 – 16 October 2008 at Hanoi, Vietnam, with the support of IE Singapore.
This event, to be hosted by the Southeast Asia Water Utilities Network, is expected to be the largest industry gathering of government officials, regulators, water and wastewater companies, manufacturers, industrials users, consultants and industry experts in Vietnam. Saudi Water & Power Forum 2008
Singapore Water Association will be organizing a Singapore
Pavilion at Saudi Water & Power Forum (SWPF) 2008
held from 1 – 4 Nov 2008 at Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Building on last year's success, SWPF 2008 is dedicated
to companies and investors aiming to capitalise on additional
30 GW of power generating capacity targeted by the Saudi
Arabia's Water and Electricity Ministry for 2020. This
figure will double the current installed capacity of
29.1 GW at a cost of an estimated US $ 90-100 Billion.
In addition, Saudi Arabia's state-owned Saline Water
Conversion Corp. (SWCC) has estimated that through 2020,
the country will need to spend US $ 50 Billion on water
projects, many integrated with new power generation
capacity, in order to meet the Kingdom's equally rapidly
growing water demand.

Field Trip to SingSpring Desalination Plant
SWA organised a second field trip to the SingSpring
Desalination Plant on 25
January 2007, which was attended by 13 companies. Feedback
from members was very positive and there were increasing
requests for other field trips to places such as the
Marina Barrage. |

Inaugural SWA Annual Dinner
The Inaugural SWA Annual Dinner was held at Shangri-La
Hotel on 27 March
2007, with Dr. Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for the Environment
& Water Resources
as Guest-of-Honour. Some 300 members and invitees attended
the event.
The dinner was seen as a benchmark for members and
partners to position the
water industry and its importance to Singapore and for
SWA to showcase its
capability and position. The event attracted good media
coverage in Channel NewsAsia, The Straits Times, Today
Paper and Lian He Zao Bao.
The dinner which was commended by many members and
guests provided an
opportunity for government agencies, embassies, water
industry companies and professionals to network. |

China Water Congress 2007
SWA was invited by the Ministry of Construction, National
Development and
Reform Commission and Ministry of Water Resources to
endorse the China Water Congress 2007 held in Beijing
on 19 - 20 April 2007.
Representatives from 3 companies namely, CPG Consultants
Pte Ltd, Temasek Polytechnic and Sinopipe Holdings Ltd
attended the conference. Secretariat also attended the
Congress as part of the endorsement incentives.

2nd International Conference for China Urban
Water Development & New Technologies and Products
Expo
The Association with the support of International
Enterprise Singapore and PUB,
led the Singapore Pavilion at the 2nd International
Conference for China Urban Water Development & New
Technologies and Products Expo which was held on 28
- 30 August 2007 in Beijing.
The Singapore Pavilion showcased the companies which
have put Singapore on
the map, together with those that would continue to
grow. The exhibiting
companies included Singapore Utilities International
Pte Ltd, Sinopipe Holdings Limited, Salcon Pte Ltd,
Borouge Pte Ltd, Hydrochem (S) Pte Ltd and Asia Pacific
CIS Pte Ltd.
The participating companies took the opportunity to
present their companies’
latest products, services, and technologies to Dr Yaacob
Ibrahim, Singapore’s Minister for the Environment
and Water Resources who visited the pavilion. |

4th SWA Annual General Meeting
The 4th SWA Annual General Meeting held on 26th October
at WaterHub started off with an opening address by the
President, Ms. Olivia Lum. In her address, she mentioned
that SWA’s membership has increased by some 35%
to 118. She highlighted some industry updates, followed
by her vision for SWA for 2008, which is to have a pool
of at least 300 members by 2010 as well as to generate
a revenue of some S$1 million a year with a full-time
Executive Director and supporting staff.
With the departure of Mr. Lim Chiang Theng from Sembawang
Engineers & Constructors Pte Ltd, the Committee
with full support from members agreed to appoint Mr.
Cho Kam Seng, AVP for Environment of Sembawang Engineers
& Constructors Pte Ltd as the new Treasurer. In
addition, Mr. Low Kian Beng, MD and CEO of Envipure
Pte Ltd would replace Mr. Hoe Eng Kang as Chairman of
the Membership Committee.
The annual report was delivered by Mr. Freddy Soon,
Senior Vice President of Hyflux and Chairman of Communications
& International Relations of SWA. The report encapsulated
SWA’s activities and accomplishments in 2006/07.
The future plan of SWA was also outlined in the report.
A networking dinner was arranged after the AGM for
members to network. |

Saudi Water & Power Forum 2007
The Saudi Water & Power Forum 2007 held from 3
to 5 November 2007 at
Jeddah, has the full support of the Ministry of Water
and Electricity of Saudi Arabia, Saline Water Conversion
Corporation, Saudi Electricity Company, Water and Electricity
Company, Electricity & Cogeneration Regulatory Authority,
SAGIA, International Desalination Association and Saudi
Council of Engineers. The Singapore Water Association
(SWA) led the Singapore Pavilion which includes CPG
Consultants Pte Ltd, Dayen Environmental Ltd, Lee Kim
Tat – Who Hup Pte Ltd, Salcon Pte Ltd, Singapore
Utilities International Pte Ltd, Smitech Engineering
Pte Ltd and United Engineers (Singapore) Pte Ltd at
Saudi Water & Power Forum 2007 to meet the key decision
makers, buyers, planners, and customers as well as benchmark
with company competitors.

Singapore Water Industry Nite
The first “Singapore Water Industry Nite”
organized by EWI, SWA and PUB kicked off on 28th November
2007 at the WaterHub. The event, sponsored by United
Engineers Ltd provided a platform for industry players
and government officials to interact, network and foster
closer working relationships and understanding. Overseas
delegates attending the International Environment and
Water Conference 2007, including delegates from the
Asian Productivity Organization (APO) made the whole
event rather international in nature.
Highlights of the 1st Singapore Water Industry Nite
included a keynote presentation by Mr. Dale Jacobson,
Past President of Water Environment Federation (WEF)
to share on the global water landscape and latest water
industry developments.
In addition, PUB made tender announcements of upcoming
projects. “This would be a regular feature of
Singapore Water Industry Nites.” said Mr. Khoo
Teng Chye, CE of PUB. The Water Industry Nites will
be organized every two months by SWA and held either
at Waterhub or other venues.

Enviro Asia 2007
The Singapore Water Association (SWA) joined hands
with the Waste Management & Recycling Association
of Singapore (WMRAS) to organize this mega event, with
Ministry of Environment and Water Resources (MEWR),
National Environment Agency (NEA), and PUB as the host.
The 3rd International Environmental Exhibition and Conference
held on 27th to 30th Nov 2007 at Suntec Singapore, saw
a total of 106 participating companies from 18 countries.
Some 5,035 visitors of whom 22.6% were from overseas
attended Enviro Asia 2007. Participants interviewed
were pleased with the extensive showcase of innovative
products and services available at the exhibition.
Held in conjunction with Enviro Asia 2007 exhibition,
a Conference named International Environment and Water
Conference (IEWC2007) was co-organized by the Institution
of Engineers, Singapore (IES) and SWA. The Conference
drew a total of 114 delegates.
Mr. Khoo Teng Chye, CE of PUB was the Guest-of-Honour
and keynote speaker, together with two moderators, Dr.
Ng How Yong, Chairman for Organising Committee and Mr.
Freddy Soon, Chairman for Communications & International
Relations of SWA.
The Conference which covered topics related to financial
schemes and risk management of water projects and water
security was complemented with country papers from China,
Vietnam and the Middle-East.
Specialised workshops on Erosion Control and Water
Infrastructure Security were also organized in conjunction
with the Conference. |

Members’ Directory, April 2006
SWA launched its first edition of the Members’
Directory 2006 in April 2006. The publication is part
of the Association’s promotional efforts in profiling
the Association and its members. It shall serve as a
reference guide for industry to facilitate strategic
partnerships amongst companies. The 2000 copies of directories
is circulated to all SWA members, relevant government
agencies in Singapore, embassies and their trade offices,
as well as international water bodies and at the various
events that SWA will be participating internationally. |

SWA Retreat, 4 April 2006 SWA had
its first retreat meeting at Raffles Marina, Tuas on
4 April 2006. The purpose was for the committee to brainstorm
on how to strengthen the association to better support
members’ needs in the challenging water industry.
Mr. Joachim H.Ihrcke, Managing Director of Droege &
Comp. Singapore Pte Ltd was invited to facilitate the
discussion. Special guests included International Enterprise
Singapore (IES) and PUB.
The key discussion included building SWA vision and
how SWA can rise to the challenges. The meeting also
benefited from an IE Singapore presentation on “Internationalization
of Singapore’s Environmental Sector”. |

Field Trip – Visit to Singspring Desalination
Plant, 12 April 2006 Singapore Water Association
organised a field trip to visit Singspring Desalination
Plant on 12 April 2006. The field trip attracted 22
companies. The program involved viewing of Desalination
Video, introduction of Singspring and its project, briefing
on display panels of Singapore Four Taps Strategy, Treatment
Process and project milestones and distinctions and
a bus tour of the Plant. Members fedback that they had
an enriching experience from the visit. Due to the good
response, the next field trip will be organised in the
second half of the year. |

IWA Young Researchers Conference, 24-26 May
2006 SWA supported the 3rd IWA Young Researchers
Conference, hosted by NTU in Singapore in 24 –
26 May 2006. This international biennial conference
provided young water professionals and post graduate
research students a platform to present and discuss
current and future water management concerns. |

PUB-SWA Lunch, 27 June 2006 The
PUB-SWA lunch was arranged on 27 July 2006 as an engagement
session with the Water Industry, which involved Mr Khoo
Thye Chye, Chief Executive of PUB and SWA Exco Members.
During the lunch, the Environment and Water Industry
Development Council (EWIDC) and its strategies were
introduced. EWIDC aims to drive and spearhead the growth
of the water industry using R&D as the key driver.
The vision is to develop Singapore into a global hydrohub
for the water industry. Notes of the briefing were sent
to all SWA members for their information. |

Election of Committee Members for the year 2006/2007
was carried out. Members also approved changes to the

Water Incubator Seminar, 25 July 2006
SWA and Exploit Technologies jointly organised the
Water Incubator Seminar on 25 July 2006 at Waterhub.
It aimed to give researchers and potential start-up
companies a chance to learn more about technology incubation.
Singapore Israel Industrial Research & Development
was invited to share with the members economic opportunities
in Israel. The seminar attracted about 100 participants. |

Singapore Pavilion, IWA World Water Congress
and Exhibition, 10-14 September 2006 The
Singapore Water Association (SWA), with the support
of International Enterprise Singapore (formerly known
as the Singapore Trade Development Board) and PUB (the
national water agency in Singapore), led the Singapore
Pavilion at IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition.
For the first time in China, Singapore Water Association
brought a group of Singapore water companies into IWA
World Water Congress & Exhibition. Singapore Pavilion
showcased the companies who make today’s Singapore
a centre for the water industry, together with those
that would continue to grow in tomorrow’s challenge.
The Exhibiting companies included Altona (S) Pte Ltd,

Eco-Products International Fair (EPIF) 2006,
October 31 – 2 November, 2006 SWA is
one of the co-organisers of the Eco-products International
Fair (EPIF) 2006 themed “A Better Environment
for All”, from 31 October to 2 November 2006 at
the Suntec International Convention & Exhibition
Centre. The organizers are Asian Productivity Organisation
(APO), Spring Singapore and WMRAS. This international
exposition showcased exhibitors’ most advanced
environmental technologies, explore business collaborations
and raise public awareness of environmentally friendly
products and services. It was a good platform to facilitate
exchanges and learning for the local and international
industry players |

Seminar on Introduction to the Water Sectors
of the Netherlands and the Singapore The
seminar on Introduction to the Water Sectors of the
Netherlands and the Singapore was a great success at
WaterHub. Held on 30 October 2006, it was jointly organized
by the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Environment
& Water Industry Development Council and SWA. The
seminar attracted 85 participants from 39 companies.
The seminar provided an insight into the latest development
in The Netherlands and Singapore water industry. It
also provided an opportunity for all to network, explore
cross boundary business collaborations and exchange
between Singapore and The Netherlands companies. |

The IWA-ASPIRE Conference and Exhibition forms a forum
for academics, scientists, engineers, and practitioners

techniques governing water resource conservation, reclamation,
and sustainability as well as water pollution control.
Knowledge and comprehension of such matters will lead

(Water) Plant Design Using Advanced Tools: AutoCAD/CADWorx
Plant Workshop
27 - 28 July 2005 SWA is organizing a workshop
to introduce designers to the use of CADWorx Plant,
which, allows designers to rapidly design (water) plant.
The participants will learn, hands-on, how to design
plant using CADWorx Plant as an advanced extension of
AutoCAD. This training course is accredited under the
Professional Engineers Board CPD Programme. The number
of PDU for this activity is 16.

Aquatech Asia 2005
6 - 8 October 2005 As part of our on-going
efforts to promote the local water industry internationally,
the Singapore Water Association (SWA) is organizing
a national pavilion at Aquatech Asia 2005 with the support
of International Enterprise Singapore (up to 50% subsidy).
Aquatech Asia, with a focus on South East Asia, has
been a dedicated trade exhibition for new-to-market
water and wastewater technology and service providers
for over a decade. Since 2001, Aquatech Asia has been
held in Bangkok, Thailand, and has developed itself
as a major trading point between the western and eastern
buyers and sellers in the water industry.
Besides the Singapore Pavilion, there will also be
a China, Dutch, Indian and US Pavilion. So far, over
90 companies from 20 countries have already confirmed
their participation.

Computer-based (water) Network Modelling
25 October - 22 November 2005 (Every Tuesday, 4 lessons)
SWA is organizing a workshop to introduce delegates
to network modeling using Flowmaster for the rapid building
of water network models to solve various problems encountered
in the design and operation of water systems. Participants
will acquire an appreciation of the usefulness of network
modeling by hands-on working through a series of "real"
problems. This training course is accredited under the
Professional Engineers Board CPD Programme. The number
of PDU for this activity is 16.

Agency Seminar,
28-30 November 2005 Singapore Water Association
supported the 17th Germany-Singapore Environmental Technology
Agency Seminar “Sustainable Water Management:
The Way Forward”. It was officially opened by
Dr. Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for Environment and Water
Resources and Mr Andreas Michaelis, Ambassador Extraordinary
and Plenipotentiary, Embassy of the Federal Republic
of Germany, on 28 November 2005 at Meritus Mandarin
Hotel. The 3-day seminar attracted 60 participants from
17 countries. A networking dinner reception was organised
for these participants to network with SWA members at
the WaterHub. |

SWA and AWA signed the MOU, 12 December 2005
The partnering Agreement between AWA and
SWA was signed by both presidents on 12 December 2005.
Both associations wish to cooperate in delivering common
