Singapore Water Association Elects Tang Kin Fei as President

Singapore, 24 September 2008 – The Singapore Water Association (SWA), the national body of private sector water players, has elected Mr. Tang Kin Fei, Sembcorp Group President & CEO, as its new President (pictured above, at right).

As head of the Sembcorp Group, a major home-grown water player operating wastewater treatment, industrial water treatment, water recycling, steam and desalination facilities in Singapore, China, the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates, Mr Tang brings rich industry experience to the leadership of the SWA.

In an opening address to the new Council, he commented, “With the growth of Singapore’s water industry, I believe SWA’s role as a platform for companies to come together to exchange views, jointly tackle issues facing our business and expand our business opportunities both here and overseas, is more important than ever. With the support of my colleagues at SWA, I hope to continue the good work that has been done to help the association fulfill its vision of supporting Singapore’s development as a dynamic regional hydrohub.”

Mr. Tang was elected for a two-year term of office together with SWA’s new Council at the 5th SWA Annual General Meeting held at the WaterHub on 16 September. He takes over from immediate past president Ms. Olivia Lum, Group CEO, President & Managing Director of Hyflux Ltd (pictured above, at left).

“The protem Council has worked hard to develop SWA, which has blossomed into a national body. I am delighted to pass over the reins to the new Council,” said Ms Lum, congratulating the new President.

Since its inception in 2004, the SWA has recruited a total of 153 members (comprising of 107 ordinary members, 30 associate members, 5 institutional members and 11 individual members). The association aspires to play a role in efforts to profile and promote Singapore as a one-stop centre for all water-related services and as a water technology hub.

Internationally, SWA represents the industry as industry members of the International Water Association (IWA) and International Desalination Association (IDA). The SWA has also signed Memoranda of Understanding with the IDA as well as the Australian Water Association, China Desalination Association, Philippine Water Works Association Inc. and the Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s Centre of Innovation. It has helped to fly the flag for Singapore water companies, leading eight Singapore water industry contingents overseas with IE Singapore to Bangkok, Beijing, Ho Chin Minh City, Jeddah, Perth and Vienna
